Instagram Makeover

Recognizable for a classic and modern design, Instagram got a new look and a new logo a couple of days ago.

Pink, purple, yellow and orange are the colors that give the logo a minimalist and fresh look, but its interface got back to basics with a black and white look.

But that’s not all…

Instagram also updated its icons for its other apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.

“When Instagram was founded over five years ago, it was a place for you to easily edit and share photos. Over those five years, things have changed,” says Ian Spalter, Instagram’s Head of Design, who explained that this change is due to make a better reflect of how Instagram’s community has changed over time into a diverse community of interests. Nowadays, people share more photos and videos and they found ways to connect each other through Explore.

“Our updated icon stays true to the camera and rainbow”

If you cannot see that… take a better look at it.

The colors are blended in the new design, but it’s definitely a total reference to Instagram’s rainbow in its older design.

One of the benefits of a black and white interface is that the user is not competing for attention anymore, because now it is simple and cleaner. This allows the pictures to stand out and the users to pay more attention to the photos and videos people share in this social platform.
